Gymnastics Revolution TEAM CHALLENGE 2/3-2/5 (Super Bowl Weekend)
JUST THE FACTS-
Competition Site- Western Connecticut State University, Danbury, CT.
For those not familiar with the geography. Although technically part of New England, Danbury, CT sits right on the NY boarder and is equal distance from Foxboro , MA (where the Patriots play) and East Rutherford, NJ (where the Giants play). I am happy to say that the meet ended with out a riot between Patriots fans and Giants fans.
Type of equipment- AAI
Number of competitors- 960
Number of gyms- 2
Sets of equipment- 1 per gym with 2 beams per side.
Did the sessions run on time? YES (most were ahead of time)
Biggest fix needed- Not sure if it is possible in the current facility but a 2nd place to hold awards. One for Gym 1, One for Gym 2. It would also to see more vendors.
Best thing about the meet- Event Finals for Level 9 and 10. I like meets with event finals because ANYONE can get lucky once. Seldom does that happen two nights in a row.
Second Best Thing- A FANTASTIC March in ceremony. Quick, Professional, with great fanfare. THE PARENTS LOVED IT.
Other good things-
- Athletes were sent STARS ahead of the meet and got donations for the Make A Wish Fund.
- Two Weeks at the National Gymnastics Training Camp summer camp were raffled off.
- Nice meals for the coaches.
We have all been to weekend long competitions where coaches hospitality for the coaches consisted of 1 pizza to feed 30 coaches and maybe a bowl of goldfish. NOT HERE. There was more than enough food available after each session. Coffee and soft drinks all day. Sandwiches during lunch, Soup and pasta for dinner.
There was a solid level of competition through out the weekend. Not the hardest meet I have ever been to, but not the weakest either. The number of athletes in the meet was probably down 300-400 from last year due to 2 other major invitationals in the region the same weekend.
BOTTOM LINE- am I going back? YES. I would like to see a higher level of competition like it was in the past but that is something I certainly can not control.
Do you have a competition you want to review? Keep the momentum going. SHARE
