The FIG Executive Committee held its third meeting of the year in Tonsberg (NOR) July 27-29. Please find below the summary of the main information and decisions.
- The EC approved the proposed changes of the Statutes of the Mediterranean Gymnastics Confederation (COMEGYM).
- Concerning the development of Parkour within the FIG, and in line with the decided Road Map (decision-making process), the EC decided to form an FIG Parkour Commission, to employ a Sports Manager for this discipline and to launch an FIG Parkour World Cup Series in cooperation with the FISE, beginning 3-5 November 2017 in Chengdu (CHN). Three or four additional events will take place within the FISE World Cup Series in 2018, combined with workshops and educational events.

- In order to assure the competition schedule and the accuracy of judging, the EC has decided to strengthen the Superior Jury at the forthcoming World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Pesaro (ITA) 30 August – 3 September 2017. Six judges have been nominated as additional members of the Superior Jury. The EC decided the selection criteria (including the Reference Judges) as well as the necessary exceptions to the General Judges Rules, Code of Points (CoP) and Appendix to the CoP, Part A Rules for the duties of Superior Juries.
- The EC updated the Rules for “Medical Organisation of the FIG Competitions” and approved a new document on “Medical and anti-doping practical information at World Cup events”. The updated Rules are valid immediately.
- The EC approved the following clarification in the Technical Regulations (7.8.2 c), the TRA Code of Points (Art. 19) and the World Cup rules (Art. 11):
“In case no HD measuring device is available, the President of the Superior Jury or the Chair of Judges’ Panel may form a judges’ panel with 2 additional E/H judges, provided a sufficient number of eligible judges are registered and present at the competition and the result system used by the organizer allows the use of these additional judges.” - The EC decided the definition of “Close family relative” which is mentioned in General Judges’ Rules Art. 1 and in the Code of Ethics as follows:
- Judges shall recuse themselves if
– they are or were married to or live in a registered partnership or co-habit with a gymnast
– they are related to a gymnast by birth or marriage in direct or in collateral line, including the following persons: grandparent, parent, uncle, aunt, brother, sister, child, grandchild, nephew and cousin.
The definition shall be applied immediately. - The EC defined the tie-breaking procedures requested in Criteria 4 and 5 in the Rules for the 2020 Olympic Qualification for Artistic Gymnastics.
- To be consistent, the EC decided on the following change in the Rules for the 2020 Olympic Qualification for Artistic Gymnastic, Criteria 5:
- To allow athletes who qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games through the Individual World Cup Series to participate on all apparatus in the qualification at the Games.
This change will have to be ratified by the 2018 Council. - The EC updated the “FIG Rules for Award Ceremony”. This concerns mainly the procedure for the appointment of the medal presenters including FIG Authority Members, FIG Ambassadors and other dignitaries. The updated Rules are valid immediately.
- The EC decided to abolish the prize money in the “Rules for Meritorious Member Federations”. This change will be valid from 1 January 2018.
- The EC updated the “FIG Rules for the Development Fund”. This concerns mainly the criteria upon which the Continental Unions may use allocated funds. This update is valid immediately.
- The EC decided the dates of its four meetings in 2018 as follows:
1-2 March 2018 in Lausanne (SUI)
9-10 May 2018 in Istanbul (TUR)
25-26 July 2018 in a developing country to be decided
30 November-1 December in Baku (AZE) - The EC assigned the 2018 Council Meeting to the Turkish Gymnastics Federation. It will be held in Istanbul 11-12 May.
- The EC empowered President Watanabe to finalise the contract and assign the 2018 Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships 1-3 June and World Age Group Competitions 25-27 May to the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation. The Championships will take place in Guimaraes.
- The EC empowered President Watanabe to finalise the contract and assign the 2018 Trampoline World Championships 7-10 November and World Age Group Competitions 15-18 November to the Russian Gymnastics Federation. The Championships will take place in St Petersburg.
- The EC assigned the 2019 Trampoline and World Age Group Championships to the Japanese Gymnastics Association. They will be held in Tokyo in the Olympic venue for Gymnastics.
