Tony,
Just wanted to let you know how I did in my last two meets. At the Peach Tree Invitational in Atlanta, GA. My gymnastics was not great at these meets, but I did get to talk about Mikey’s Way, and with the help of the host gym, I raised almost $200 for Mikey’s Way through donations and the sale of Mikey’s Way wrist bands. I was also honored with the Watson-Raines Award, a $1,000 scholarship for travel and training expenses.
Then the Houston National Invitational, the host gym put a page in the meet program about Mikey’s Way and introduced at the meet before my floor routine. I scored a 14.5 on floor and I tied for 8th. I also won high bar, scoring a 15.55, and brought home the $400 prize money for an event title.
Thanks for your help and remember Always be Uplifting!
Ian

Gymnastics Revolution TEAM CHALLENGE 2/3-2/5 (Super Bowl Weekend)
JUST THE FACTS-
Competition Site- Western Connecticut State University, Danbury, CT.
For those not familiar with the geography. Although technically part of New England, Danbury, CT sits right on the NY boarder and is equal distance from Foxboro , MA (where the Patriots play) and East Rutherford, NJ (where the Giants play). I am happy to say that the meet ended with out a riot between Patriots fans and Giants fans.
Type of equipment- AAI
Number of competitors- 960
Number of gyms- 2
Sets of equipment- 1 per gym with 2 beams per side.
Did the sessions run on time? YES (most were ahead of time)
Biggest fix needed- Not sure if it is possible in the current facility but a 2nd place to hold awards. One for Gym 1, One for Gym 2. It would also to see more vendors.
Best thing about the meet- Event Finals for Level 9 and 10. I like meets with event finals because ANYONE can get lucky once. Seldom does that happen two nights in a row.
Second Best Thing- A FANTASTIC March in ceremony. Quick, Professional, with great fanfare. THE PARENTS LOVED IT.
Other good things-
- Athletes were sent STARS ahead of the meet and got donations for the Make A Wish Fund.
- Two Weeks at the National Gymnastics Training Camp summer camp were raffled off.
- Nice meals for the coaches.
We have all been to weekend long competitions where coaches hospitality for the coaches consisted of 1 pizza to feed 30 coaches and maybe a bowl of goldfish. NOT HERE. There was more than enough food available after each session. Coffee and soft drinks all day. Sandwiches during lunch, Soup and pasta for dinner.
There was a solid level of competition through out the weekend. Not the hardest meet I have ever been to, but not the weakest either. The number of athletes in the meet was probably down 300-400 from last year due to 2 other major invitationals in the region the same weekend.
BOTTOM LINE- am I going back? YES. I would like to see a higher level of competition like it was in the past but that is something I certainly can not control.

DGS Northeast Invitational. 1/13-1/15
JUST THE FACTS-
Competition Site- Trinity College, Hartford CT
Type of equipment- AAI
Number of competitors- 900
Number of gyms- 2
Sets of equipment- 1 per gym with 2 beams per side.
Did the sessions run on time? YES (most were ahead of time)
Biggest fix needed- The competition has outgrown its current home. There is plenty of room on the competition floor but awards could use a bigger space and parking was an issue.
Best thing about the meet- Gifts, Gifts, Gifts! Nice gifts for coaches (Wine or a HUGE box of chocolate covered pretzels. I took the wine which by the way was quite good) Great goody bags for kids, each gym won a piece of equipment that the gymnasts got t choose. My gymnasts took home a nice floor beam. 1 gymnast in each session won a $50 gift certificate to DGS 9.9, 1 gymnast from the weekend won a week at the National Gymnastics Training Camp summer camp. Every competitor left with a DVD containing all the photos from their team. The parents LOVED THIS.
We have all been to weekend long competitions where coaches hospitality for the coaches consisted of 1 pizza to feed 30 coaches and maybe a bowl of goldfish. NOT HERE. There was more than enough food available after each session. Coffee and soft drinks all day. Sandwiches during lunch, a very good dinner spread (Chicken Marsala, pasta, salad etc on one night.) In general great hospitality Right down to the Big Screen TV in the coaches room to watch a little football in between sessions.
There was a solid level of competition through out the weekend. Not the hardest meet I have ever been to, but not the weakest either.
BOTTOM LINE- am I going back? YES. There are a number of big invitationals going on in our region that weekend, all within an 90 minutes of each other (and 2 just across town from each other). I drove past both of them to take my team here.
