Is this a Problem or Opportunity?
Americans are becoming less healthy.
Americans are becoming less active.
The Stats on the Problem
Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years.
The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2010. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to 18% over the same period
Why This Matters
In 2010, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese.
Overweight and obesity are the result of “caloric imbalance”—too few calories expended for the amount of calories consumed—and are affected by various genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors.
Why This Matters
Only one in three children are physically active every day.
Children now spend more than seven and a half hours a day in front of a screen (e.g., TV, video games, computer).
Only about one in five homes have parks within a half-mile, and about the same number have a fitness or recreation center within that distance.
Americans eat less than the recommended amounts of vegetables, fruits, whole-grains, dairy products, and oils.
Once upon a time, exercise was a normal part of every child’s life—long walks to and from school, daily physical education classes (or recess), and neighborhood games of tag and dodgeball kept young bodies healthy and strong.
Get The Kids Up and MOVING
We need to find what they want.
Start where they are and work toward the ideal.
Small victories and improvements.
THE BEST EXERCISE IS THE ONE THEY WILL DO!
What is General Fitness?
General fitness is all to do with your mental and physical health. It can be from what sports you participate in to which foods you eat.
Physical fitness is a general state of good physical health.
When children play, they’re exercising – and having a great time
We can not expect kids to run on a treadmill.
Keep it fun.
Give the kids time to come up with their own rules.

Any complete conditioning program for gymnastics should include these movements
At least it is a starting point.
7 fundamental movements
Training for gymnastics conditioning consists of the following fundamental movements:
Shoulder flexion – casting, press handstands, planche
Shoulder extension – kipping, uprise, downswing phases of in-bar work
Upper extremity pushing – handstand, handstand push up, rebounding during hand contact phases
7 movements continued
Upper extremity pulling – pull up, pullover, withstand the bottom of swinging skills
Jumping and landing – tumbling, vaulting, mounts, dismounts, dance movements
Torso and hip flexion – piking, tucking, leg lifts, forward somersault take offs, hollow body positions
Torso and hip extension – arching, back bends, walkovers, flic flacs, most backward take offs
7 Primal Movement Patterns
Squat – movement pattern where you plant both feet on the ground, then bend your legs to lower your body
Lunge – single leg exercise movement that requires one leg to step forward and bend while the other leg remains stationary.
Push – exercise requires pushing external weight away from your body, or your center of mass away from the ground.
Pull – motion is the opposite of a pushing motion, in that you are pulling a weight towards your body, or pulling your center of mass toward an object
Bend – a movement pattern where you bend your torso by hinging your hips.
Twist – There are two primary types of twisting, or rotational movements: (1) rotational and (2) anti-rotational.
Gait – Walking, jogging, or sprinting is called a gait, which requires pulling, lunging, and twisting motions to propel the body forward.
